Talk about City and football / Kiev
« Last post by Eastlands on March 16, 2016, 07:57:16 pm »
I start this thread after the event, if for no other reason than to record the fact that it actually happend. It was more of a non-event really in that Kiev didn't show up as a team hoping to win it and never looked like scoring. City on their part played a game of containment rather than going all out for a win. How much that was due to the early loss of Kompany and Otimendi we will never know
Eastlands was a cold place to be last night and there was no sense of real fulfilment in achieving qualification to the quarter finals for the first time, in this so called 'Champions League' competition. The loss of Kompany and Otimendi was also a blow and a threat to our anticipation of thrashing the Reds the coming Derby

we either slaughter the canaries

were missing debruyne badly,
certainly we should have had a few goals

the league is not over yet,
but its edging closer

Scene: Manuel Pellegrini's office.

Manuel is sitting in his chair with his feet on the desk reading the Beano.

Knock on the door.

Enter Brian Kidd. (Mr Pellegrini doesn't look up.)

Kiddo: Morning Boss, the players want to know what the tactics will be for Tuesday.

Mr. Pellegrini: Same as usual Brian.

Kiddo: But gaffer, this is a different type of game and the players think....

Mr. Pellegrini: (interupts) Same as usual Brian.

Kiddo: Yes boss, but...

Mr. Pellegrini: Brian.

Kiddo: Yes boss?

Mr. Pellegrini: It is very important that you realise how important my decisions are.

Kiddo: But boss, I think...

Mr. Pellegrini: And it is also very important that I finish The Bash Street Kids before lunch.

Kiddo: But Mr Pellegrini, Twitter is in meltdown and the players think.....

Mr. Pellegrini: Goodbye Brian. See you in the dugout on Tuesday. Close the door behind you.

Kiddo: (under his breath,) Charming!

Exits

Mr. Pellegrini continues to read his comic lets out a chuckle  and sucks on a Werthers Original.

Contrary to what some fans are saying on social media, I don't think there was any lack of effort by the players today. And I thought it was the same at Liverpool in the recent 3-0 defeat.
But we are not getting consistent results and I think where the problem lies is that we are so one dimensional. There is no variety of approach. We are devoid of tactical ideas.
In short, we seem unable to adapt our game to cope with different opponents. Whether it be Liverpool's counter attacking, high press tempo at Anfield or Norwich's desperate parked bus routine at Carrow Road today, we just play the same game and it's looking stale, predictable and far too often ineffective.
You can't help feeling it's already been a season of underachievement despite the very enjoyable League Cup success. Throwing the FA cup the way we did was something I never thought I'd see my club do. And despite putting great emphasis on the Champions League it's hard to see us overcoming the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich. We just don't appear to be quite at their level just yet.
I just hope we can hold on to our top four place now. Anything less would turn a poor season into a disastrous season.

A low scoring game, too low for City to win. An hours wasted time for Bony once again with a none productive first half. Again, this seemed to be that the motivation and determination of Norwich not to lose, outshone City's none existant will to win

We could have gone 3rd but are now fighting for a top four place  :-[

Once again Bony starts ahead of Kelechi Iheanacho and Raheem Sterling. I really can't see the point but I hope he proves me wrong, these games are too important to risk out of form players when there are more capable and motivated team members available

Probably a low scoring win for City and as Spike said,"I'll take that today"

We'll need a good performance today. I've watched Norwich a few times lately and they've played well and been unlucky to lose games.
We need our strongest side. No Yaya is a worry. Need big performances from our best players.
Dont care what the score is as long as the 3 points are in the bag.

OK it was four nil to City but what a dire first half and Bony should never have started ahead of Iheanacho, he was awful.
We had to wait untill the second half before it got started, with the Villains fielding a 5-3-2 formation that City found difficult to break through and I believe they should have done better against a side that had nothing to offer, in order to improve the teams goal difference. It could be important

The Spurs/Arsenal draw saved the day
